Anne Ottenbrite fever is taking over the Town of Whitby. Last week, within hours of her gold medal victory in the 200-metre breaststroke, a sign had been erected at the Tourist Information Centre on Brock St. S., proclaiming Whitby to be the home of Canada’s number one female swimmer. The sign was designed and made by Don and Bev Rodgers of Signet Signs, and was put in place by workmen from the town’s parks and recreation department under the watchful eyes of both local and national media, including all three Canadian television networks.
Seen here admiring the sign are: Bev Rodgers of Signet Signs; Fran Ottenbrite, Anne’s mother; Regional Councillor Gerry Emm; Joe Ottenbrite, Anne’s father; and Wayne De Veau, director of the parks and recreation department.
