THE SAND RATS

The north ward baseball club, “the sand-rats”, have organized for the coming summer, and are indulging in hard practice nightly. In the course of a few days they will be prepared to receive challenges.

THE BEAVERS

The Beavers of Whitby wish to express their thanks to those who have contributed to their treasury. The boys are not through collecting, and if your name is not on the list, place it there without further delay, and help keep up sport in our town.

On Tuesday (June 2) a meeting was held for the purpose of organizing, when the following officers were elected: Manager, A. G. Henderson; pres., Ed Warren; 1st vice-pres., Arthur Allin; 2nd vice, R. Cassels; Capt., Sidney Thompson; sec. treas., Frank Shaw; com. E. Nicholson, F. Manning, H. Richardson. The Beavers will take this opportunity to challenge any team (average age, 15) in the world. – Frank W. Shaw, Sec., Whitby.

MARSH TOADS

The south ward baseball club, known to fame as the Marsh Toads, challenged the buckle factory to place a nine in the field on Saturday last (May 30) and the affair came off at the athletic grounds before a large and excited audience. The play was very even (that is the play on the mouth) until the commencement of the first inning, and then fortune appeared to smile on the buckle factory fellers, who won in the end by a score of 17 to 7.
