Preparations have been going on for weeks and months past for the reception of the delegates to the Bay of Quinte Conference of the Methodist churches, which this year meets in Whitby. The greatest care possible has been taken to ensure a royal welcome and entertainment to the visitors and those efforts are now bearing fruit. The Conference opened here this week and found the Methodists of the town in readiness. Not for many years has such a large number of people come to town for a convention.

The task of entertaining the guests is no mean one, but arrangements have been made so that everyone is being looked after in the proper manner. Members of other denominations in the town have lent helping hands in the work, and many of the visitors are being lodged with them. The problem of supplying board has been overcome by the use of the town hall for the serving of meals. Meal tickets are also being issued for the various hotels in town. Some of the delegates are being accommodated at the College, others at hotels, but the majority in private homes.

On Monday evening (June 2) the Statistical Committee met in the Baptist Church, under the direction of S. T. Tucker, Conference Statistician. The Stationing Committee met in the Presbyterian Church at the same time. No regular session was held on Tuesday (June 1), but these committees completed their work as far as possible.

Wednesday (June 4) was Minister’s Day, and a ministerial service was held in the morning at 10 o’clock, devotional exercises were held, the report of the Transfer Committee was read, and a report of Special Ordination. A Committee on Conference Relations was appointed, and a Jubilee of Revs. Amos, Campbell, Jr. Egan and John Harris was held.

The afternoon was occupied with the Report of the Committee on Conference Relations and with disciplinary questions.

At 8 p.m. the Educational Anniversary took place with Rev. Dr. Hare, Principal O.L.C. presiding. Addresses were delivered by Rev. G. C. Workman and Rev. J. W. Graham, D. D., Secretary of Education. Today (Thursday) the general session commences, when all the lay delegates will be present.
