- Dr. George Herbert Stevenson was born at Toronto in 1894 and received his medical degree from the University of Toronto in 1918. He was awarded the King's Jubilee Medal in 1935 and the Coronation Medal in 1937. He was also president of the London Academy of Medicine, and was a Fellow of the Royal Society. He was medical officer at the Newmarket Military Hospital from 1919-1920 and at the Ontario Hospital at London, Ontario from 1920 to 1921. He was Assistant Superintendent at London from 1921 to 1927, and from 1927 to 1934 he was Superintendent of the Ontario Hospital at Whitby. While he was in Whitby, he was the character president of the Whitby Rotary Club in 1933-1934. From 1934 to 1952, he was Superintendent of the Ontario Hospital in London. He retired from the Ontario Hospitals in 1955 and did research in British Columbia before starting a second career with the State Health Department in Hawaii. He became a U.S. citizen and joined the staff of the University of Hawaii, working for eight years on prison reform. His final retirement was in 1970. He served as president of the Ontario County Medical Association and the American Psychiatric Association. Dr. Stevenson died in St. Petersburg, Florida, in 1976.
