Notes
Dr. James Mofat Forster was born in Britannia, Peel County, Canada West in 1863. he attended the Toronto School of Medicine and the University of Toronto, and took post-graduate work at Polyclinic, New York, in 1886. He also studied brain and nerve pathology and psychiatry at the Royal Infirmary, Edinbough, Scotland. He interned at the National Hospital for epileptics and nervous diseases in London, England and at a German clinic, Berlin, in 1902. He joined the Ontario Government mental hospital system in 1887 and was on the staff of the Asylum for the Insane at London, Ontario. In 1910, he was medical superintendent of the Ontario Hospital at Toronto. In 1912, he visited hospitals in the British Iles for instruction in the planning and development of the new Ontario Hospital being built at Whitby. In January 1920, he was appointed as the Whitby Hospital's first superintendent, a position he held until 1927 when he retired after 40 years of service in Ontario Hospitals. He retired to Oakville, where he died on May 30, 1941 and is buried in St. Jude's Cemetery, Oakville.
