- Alex Brown is a local Whitby area veteran. He is a member of the Royal Canadian Legion.
Robert Bradford Collins was born at Whitby in 1924. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1943 and graduated as a navigator Bombardier in 1945. He was the fourth generation in his family to own Collin's shoe store in downtown Whitby. He operated the store from 1969 to 1977. He was master of David T. Campbell Masonic Lodge in 1970. He was a member of the Whitby Rotary Club from 1948 to 2002 and served as President from 1963 to 1964. He was secretary for many years. As well, he was a member of the Whitby Chamber of Commerce. Robert died at Whitby in 2002 and is buried at Groveside Cemetery, Brooklin.
