I don't know if you still work for the town of Whitby Brian but I would love to know the status of the portraits. I am a descendant of Peter and Mary and the last time I visited the Whitby town hall I understood the portraits had been hung but were damaged in some way. This was probably 10 years ago. Do you know where they are and if I can see them? Thank you so much Claire Gibson 905-780-9963

Hi Claire,

The Perry portraits have been fully restored and are currently hanging in the Centennial Building on Centre Street. Please visit them!

Thanks, Whitby Archives

I am researching my Perry roots from Canada and would like to know if you could tell me the names of Peter Perry and Mary Ham's children.

Hi Ruth,

I'm happy to hear you're doing some family history research. Please email us at archives@whitbylibrary.on.ca for more information on the Perry family.

I maintain a website (nelsoncook.com) dedicated to the life and works of Nelson Cook, who painted Peter and Mary Perry. I would like to add color images of the restored portraits to the site. Could you please email me these images and may I have your permission to add them to my site? Thank you!

Hello Thom,

We have chatted via email in the past. The Whitby Archives does not own the images, nor do we have colour scans. The paintings belong to the Town of Whitby.

Thanks, Whitby Archives
