- A black and white portrait photograph of John Hamer Greenwood.

- John Hamer Greenwood was born at Llambister, Radnorshire, Wales on January 20, 1829 and came to Whitby in 1850 to join his uncle John Hamer. He carried bricks at the construction of the courthouse at Whitby in 1853 and studied to be a lawyer. In the 1870s he was proprietor of a clock factory and a sewing machine company in Whitby. He was also a farmer of some note. Mr. Greenwood was mayor of Whitby from 1872-1875 and in 1883. John Hamer Greenwood died at Whitby on July 15, 1902 and is buried in Union Cemetery, Oshawa.
