A black and white portrait photograph of Reverend Edward alexander McIntyre (1880-1926).
Notes
Reverend Edward Alexander McIntyre was born at Woodstock, Ontario in 1880. He graduated from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degree, and graduated from Wycliffe College in Toronto in 1900 to enter the Anglican ministry. He was student rector at St. John's Anglican Church in 1903 and was ordained by the Bishop of Toronto on May 27, 1904. He was curate at St. Paul's Anglican Church, Toronto for two years. In 1906 he was the first rector of the Parish of St. Aldan's Balmy Beach, and remained with that congregation for 12 years. In 1918 he returned to St. Paul's Anglican Church as Dr. H.J. Cody's assistant for a year. In 1919 he received the appointment of Professor of Systemic Theology and Apologetics at Wycliffe College where he served until his death. An accomplished writer, he was one to the first editors of Torontonesis at the University of Toronto and later edited the Church Record. In 1912 he obtained his Bachelor of Divinity degree and in 1923, Doctor of Divinity. He was editor of the Anglican newspaper, The Canadian Churchman for several years, and was a Mason and member of the Empire and Arts and Letters Clubs in Toronto. He married Miss Clara Adams of Whitby whom he met while he was a student preacher at St. John's Church. Reverend McIntyre died at Caldor Sanitarium, Gravenhurst, Ontario, on March 26, 1926 and is buried in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Toronto.
