- Notes
- Robert J. Wilson was born at Port Hope in 1833 and commenced a legal practice in Oakville. He was a nephew of Judge Zacheus Burnham of Ontario County. Burnham persuaded Wilson to come to Whitby in 1857 where he later entered a law partnership with W.H. Billings. He lived in a brick house at the south-east corner of Centre Street and Keith Street. He had a promising career, but his health broke when his wife (Barbara Chisholm) died on February 29, 1868 at Whitby. Wilson then spent four years at an asylum in Toronto where he died on February 29, 1876. He is buried at Oakville.
