- A black and white portrait photograph of John Bright. this photo was printed in the Gazette and Chronicle in 1917.
- Notes
- John Bright was born at Raglan (located north of Oshawa) on August 8, 1865 and was a farmer for many years at Myrtle Station specializing in the breeding of shorthorn cattle and Clydesdale horses. He was a director of the Ontario Winter Fair at Guelph from 1900 to 1917 and President of the Central Canada Fair at Ottawa in 1916. From 1898 to 1902 he was a member of the Whitby Township council and he was Reeve of Whitby township from 1903-1907. In 1907 he was Warden of Ontario County. He was appointed Dominion Livestock Commissioner and moved to Ottawa in 1912. He was prominent in the establishment of the bacon industry in Canada and he worked on community breeding of horses by the establishment of horse breeders' clubs to develop breeding on well-defined and uniform lines. He died at Ottawa on April 22, 1917 and is buried at Groveside Cemetery, Brooklin.
