I did some research on Ancestry.com for Peter William Mathison.
The Death Registration for Peter William Mathison who died 23 September 1920 gives his year of birth as 1855.
The 1861 Census says he is 5 years old and the 1871 Census says he is 15 years old, so both indicate that a birthdate late in 1855 is possible. I couldn’t find him in the 1881 Census. In the 1891 Census, he claimed he was 33 years old and in the 1901 Census, he claimed he was 37 years old. I have found it very common that people lied about their ages on these records. The 1901 Census also lists a day of birth as 16 November, which would confirm a birthdate late in the year.
I can’t find a birth or baptism record, but from this research it is “quite likely” that Peter William Mathison was born on 16 November, 1855.
