- A black and white water colour portrait painting of Henry Bate (1800-1850).
- Notes
- Henry Bate was born in 1800 in Devonshire, England and came to Canada with his wife and three daughters in 1840. They settled in Hamer's Corners in Whitby and Mr. Bate was the first organist as St. John's Anglican church, Port Whitby in 1846. He was a music teacher and notary public and played the violin, bass viol and flute. He died at Whitby on September 16, 1850 and is buried in St. John's Anglican Cemetery, Port Whitby.
