- A black and white photograph of William Pile (1842-1942) sitting outdoors in his granddaughter's garden on his 98th birthday on August 22, 1940.
- Notes
- William Pile was born on the 4th concession of Whitby Township on August 22, 1842. For most of his life he was a farmer on the 8th concession of Whitby Township. He was noted for having missed only two years' attendance at the Canadian National Exhibition (C.N.E.) from its founding in 1879 until his last summer in 1941. He exhibited there and at the Brooklin and Oshawa Fairs for many years. Mr. Pile was Ontario County's oldest man when he died at his daughter's home near Brooklin on January 11, 1942 at the age of 99 years. He is buried at Burns' Presbyterian Cemetery, Ashburn.
