- A black and white portrait photograph of Elliott Sprowle Rowe (1859-1914).
- Notes
- Elliott Sprowle Rowe, youngest son of Whitby's first Mayor James Rowe and Sarah Jane Hamilton, was born at Whitby in 1859. He was ordained into the Methodist Ministry in 1889 after studying to earn a Bachelor of Arts and Doctor of Divinity Degree from Victoria College. He was a minister in rural Ontario and Toronto before moving to British Columbia in 1900. He served as minister of Metropolitan Methodist Church, Victoria, B.C., until 1907 when he became the first publicity director for the city of Vancouver. He organized Vancouver's display at the Alaska, Yukon-Pacific Exhibition in Seattle, Washington, U.S.A. and conducted a publicity tour of British Columbia in 1912. In 1907 he became secretary of the first Vancouver Tourist Association. Elliott Rowe died at Vancouver on May 11, 1914.
