What was the significance of John Thomson? The house today looks like it was once used for government purposes. It is beautiful to drive by.

I too am a descendant of John Thomson. My grandfather, Wilbur Purvis Thomson, was the son of Alexander Thomson and had moved to Manitoba to commence farming there. I only became aware of the Mayfield Farm house yesterday during my search into the background of the Thomson family. I was actually provided a tour of the interior of the home by the son of the present day owners. It was an opportunity most folks do not have the pleasure of, to walk in the home of your ancestors, almost 2 centuries later. I would be interested in hearing from other relatives or those who have more information of the family. It is odd that after all this time some family members have moved back from Mb. to Whitby and the cross road to the farm is named Manning, not sure if there is any connection there....
