Notes
John Borlase Warren (1798-1879) and his brother William (1800-1887), left Cork, Ireland for Canada in 1821. The sons of Captain Robert Boyle Warren of the 8th Royal Dragons, now the 8th Hussars, John and William purchased land on Concession 3 in Whitby.

John Borlase Warren married Louisa Lynde (1807-1870), daughter of Jabez Lynde in 1826 and the couple had eleven children. John established the first post office in Whitby and subsequently became the first postmaster of the area. In 1836 he opened the Oshawa Flour Mill and also operated a general store at the corner of King and Simcoe Streets in Oshawa. Later, he became manager of the Ontario Bank at Oshawa.

William Warren married Clarissa Lynde (1805-1900) in 1824 by whom he had twelve children. During the rebellion of 1836-1837, Warren fought as Captain of the militia. In 1844 he was appointed Customs House Office at Whitby, a position he held until 1874.
