- James Rice ( 1807-1898) was born in Devonshire, England. He came to Canada sometime in the 1830s and married Nancy Park of Ireland at Whitby Township in 1840. The couple had 10 surviving children: Mary Rice (1841-1921), John (1843-1920), Ann (1846-1932), George (1848-1858), Thomas (1851-1904), Charlotte (1853-1893), James (1856-1934), Samuel (1861-1931), Robert Lyons (1866 - ).
John Rice married Anna Jane Murray (1845-1871) in 1845 and had two daughters. He then married Mary Ann Annis (1839-1903) and had two more daughters. John was appointed Official Assignee of the County of Ontario in 1877 and also served as secretary treasurer of Ontario Ladies' College. - Date of Original
