- James Rice ( 1807-1898) was born in Devonshire, England. He came to Canada sometime in the 1830s and married Nancy Park of Ireland at Whitby Township in 1840. The couple had 10 surviving children: Mary Rice (1841-1921), John (1843-1920), Ann (1846-1932), George (1848-1858), Thomas (1851-1904), Charlotte (1853-1893), James (1856-1934), Samuel (1861-1931), Robert Lyons (1866 - ).
The Rice family residence was located on the south side of Rossland Road, west of Brock Street. - Date of Original
