I believe there are two errors in this description. 1: Both Thomas and Catherine in censuses from 1861 to 1901 are noted as born in Ontario from 1861 to 1901. 2: In their marriage record, Thomas's parents are named as William and Ann, who I believe to be William Wilson and Hannah Carnall Wilson who emigrated to Canada as a couple in the 1830s. The two oldest children of Thomas and Catherine were named Polly Hannah (Catherine's mother's name was Pauline) and William James (Catherine's father was Rev James Degeer)suggesting the eldest daughter was named for both grandmothers and the eldest son named for both grandfathers.

Thanks for your comment. I'm not sure where the information about Thomas's father and mother came from. After checking Ancestry.ca I agree with you that his parents were likely William and Ann. Both Thomas and Catherine were born in Canada. Thomas at Whitby in 1837 and Catherine in Canada around 1837. However, according to the 1851 census, Catherine's parents are listed as James and Mary and this is consistent with the County Marriage Registers. Her father is listed as a carpenter and not a reverend. The search continues...
