ALVIN YORK AT ORCHESTRA HALL Most ®utstanding Hero of World War To Speak in Cause of Mountaineers Sergeant Alvin C. York, called by Marshal Foch the most outstanding hero of the World War, will appear at Orchestra hall, Chicago, on Tues- day evening, November 25 at 8:15 o'clock, under the auspices of the Rotary club of Chicago. The entire proceeds of the lecture will be ap- plied to the York foundation which will give boys and girls in the South- ern Mountain Sections a chance to avail themselves of the greatest need of this section of the country--Edu- cation. Who Alvin York Is Formerly Sergeant, 328th Infantry, 82nd Division, United States army. Elder in the Church of Christ and Christian Union, Pall Mall, Fentress county, Tennessee. A Christian soldier. The most outstanding hero of the world war. What Sergeant York Did He gave battle to and put out of action an entire German machine gun batallion in the Argonne on October 8, 1918. He killed more than twenty of the four officers. He has been awarded: The Congressional Medal of Honor. The Distinguished Service Cross. The Legion of Honor. / The Croix de Guerre, with palm. The Italian Croca di Guerra. The War Medal of Montenegro. A specidl medal by the State of Tennessee. Marshal Foch says that he did the greatest thing accomplished hy any soldier during the war. On his return home he refused of- fers of a fortune for himself. He prefers to devote himself to his own people by helping to give them real educational opportunities. He is asking nothing for himself, giving all to this purpose. - i What the York Foundation I for the purpose . of founding and maintaining a school or schools in the mountain sections. It will direct Sergeant York in his lecture tour, will receive all contri- butions and will expend them for the best interest of the school to be founded. PLAN GOLDEN RULE CLUB TO EFFECT WORLD REFORM Believing that the application of the golden rule to business, politics, society and everything will make this old earth a decent place to live in, John Godall Young of New York City, recently launched his golden rule campaign. Eighteen guests, chosen from as many walks of life, attended the ceremonies. The eighteen guests are to form the nucleus of the Golden Rule clubs of America. They are solemnly charged to put into effect in their everyday relationship the doctrine of "do unto others as you would have others do unto you." Mr. Young before putting his golden rule scheme into effect was a leader in the boy scout move- ment in New York. lr ee STOCKS OF OLD CORN REDUCED The stocks of old corn on farms on Nov. 1, is estimated at 72,263,000 bushels, which is 82 per cent of the 1918 crop.
