SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 22, 1919 America's Dead Every American heart is saddened by the thought of the nearly seventy thousands graves in which American soldiers lie in France. Seventy thou- sand young men taken from life in their very prime is a sad experience for a hation, and America mourns her soldier dead with a sincere sense of heavy loss. For about eighteen months men in the American uniform were brought to face the German guns. Everytliing that cotild be done to make them safe in } their dangerous work was done, bajt seventy thousand of them paid with their lives for the uphold- ing of the national honor and the salvation of the world from the spirit | that threw Europe into the tumult of | war. They gave cenerously, glad tol serve their country and to die that the future might be made safe for those who should come after them. During this same period right at! family and | of help 'that de their sacrifice un- home, surrounded by friends, wi would have m necessary, more than twice as many Americans, men, women and child- ren, died of tuberculosis, victims of igaorance, reach carelessness and died because the means of were net made avaiable to them, because the pub- prejudice, indiff erence, recovery lic will not take the necessary steps to stamp out this scourge which is both preventable and curable. Soon the Red Cross Christmas seal will appear for sale. People will be asked to buy these little holiday stickers and provide at the same time the funds the work to stamp out tuberculosis is; to be carried on for another year. It is a demand upon the sympathy, the] good citizenship, the humanity of the people of 'the nation that ought to be heeded by every one who has pennies to spend for Christmas seals of any sort. The holly and the mistletoe, the jolly Santa Claus head, the poinsetta, nene of the regulation Christmas decorations, compares with the design on the Red Cross seal in expression of the sentiment that should. be expressed in the Christ- mas Season. i Red Cross Christmas seals should pe included in the Christmas budget by which of every family.
