WINNETKA WEEKLY TALK, SATURDAY, AUGUST 7, 1920 PRY| N Sunday night, August 8, "La Traviata" will be sung for | the first time at Ravinia, and the leading role, almost in- variably sung by a coloratura soprano, will be taken by Mme. Pastor. Charles Hackett will sing the tenor role, Mics Kent and Ananian being other members of the cast. Continuing his policy of maintaining an interesting repertoire for the season, Mr. Eckstein announces for the near future "Don Pasquale," with Mr. Hackett and Vittorio Trevisan in the cast; "Martha", with Mme. Mason; "Romeo and Juliet", with Mr. Hack® ett and Mme. Mason, and "Zaza", with Mme, Easton in the title role. Antonio Scotti will return soon to the Ravinia company and will be heard in other performances of "L'Oracolo" and "Tosca", as well as in several new roles. The usual children's day, Thursday afternoon, was celebrated this week under the guise of a wild flower carnival. The plans em- braced a processional and pageant under the direction of Miss Bertha Iles, followed by a play, "The Lesson of the Wild Flowers", the work of Mrs. Charles Millspaugh, who was present at the per- formance. More than 4,000 children took part in the carnival, costumed variously as flowers, birds, and fairies.. There was no orchestral con- cert on that day. All children under the age of 14 years were ad- mitted without charge. Thursday evening "Thais" was repeated, with Mme. Mason, Rothier, Miss Kent, and Paltrinieri in the leading roles. Hageman conducted. & A 4 Miss Emily Larned of Winnetka is holding the fort with Mrs. Lambert O. Wile at the Republican headquarters, 411 Conway building, Chicago, while Mrs. Jacob Baur is in Europe, and Mrs. Joseph Coleman is summering at El Mirasol, Santa Barbara, Cal. Miss Larned will be remembered by many as the staunch and successful advocate of the motor busses when they were seeking a foothold in Chicago. So identified was she with their fate that it was suggested that they be called "Emilybusses". She has a genius as a publicity agent for any cause which she espouses. Dur- ing and before the recent Republican convention she was an ardent Hoover advocate. Today, however, she is as enthusiastic a supporter of Harding as she was formerly of Hoover. To her came the idea of a rubber stamp, which should at the same time be a source of revenue for the Republican ways and means committee, and an agent of publicity for her candidate. This stamp bears the inspiring words: "I am a Harding Republican". Not a Hoover or any other kind of Republican, but the genuine article. It is to be applied to every piece of writing that such a Harding Republican sends forth, letters, checks, bills, invitations. It is really a brilliant piece of publicity. Reiteration is the spirit and soul of propaganda. These rubber stamps sell for 25 cents apiece and are distributed in neat little boxes. & Vv There will be a three-day tourna-|at the club on Friday afternoons is ment at the Indiam Hill Golf club on [for members and their guests.
