WINNETKA WEEKLY TALK, SATURDAY, NOV. 20, 1920 a _ ANDERSON AND WOODS SWING BATS FOR WIN After Dodgers Upset Reds in Opener Anderson Delivers Seven and Woods Five Safe Bingles | i { | ! { 1 { | { Two upsets feateured Wednesday ! evening's indoor combats at Com- munity House gym. In the opening engagement the Dodgers, with five | men on the floor for four innings and then strengthened for the clos- ing sessions by the addition of their keystone sacker, Paulson, nosed out the over-confident Reds, who went to the floor with their full quota of players, clinging to the idea that | nothing could stop them. Charlie Dehmlow hurled for the Dodgers and won a well deserved 9-8 victory. He had one bad inning, which netted the Reds 5 runs, but he { held the losers in the last two f spasms. { 4 Lucchesi to Showers Lucchesi occupied the mound for the Reds and pitched good ball for the first two innings, but was sent to the showers in the third when five hits and two errors scored six tallies for the Dodgers. "Howy" Carpenter, catcher for the victorious outfit, was a demon at the bat, clouting four hits and accepting two passes in six trips to the plate. Wally Dehmlow also clouted the pill vigorously, materially assisted his } team in the victory. p= . Red Defense Weak Weak fielding in critical spots lost the game for the Reds, who were in a batting mood for several innings, but the six-run lead acquired by the equally determined Dodgers, was too large, although five runs were counted in the last half of the same inning, wherein the Dodgers stam- peded. The second game witnessed the initial downfall of "Kink" Bailey's aggregation of Indians, the blood- thirsty Bruins trimming their hides easily in a 16 to 8 tussle. Cubs Are Terrors It did one's optics good to see the Cubs clout "Kink's" offerings to all parts of the gym and never desisting, even when the game began to look one-sided. Nash Cazel hurled a good game for the winners, but to Harry Anderson and Jack Woods belongs the credit for the victory. Harry is handi- capped by a recently sprained ankle, which prevents him running the TT I tl -------- C--O p-- R-------- -- bases, but Bailey was praying all evening for him to break his neck as he went to bat seven times, made seven lusty hits, several of them doubles, and not one of the seven could be dubbed a "fluke." Real Wrecking Crew. tI seemed every time that men oc- It seemed every time that men oc- cupied the bags either Harry or Jack occupied the plate. Bailey ondoubt- edly breathed easier after the game when he realized that he wouldn't have to face the duo of wreckers for three more weeks. Wood was rather unfortunate this particular evening. Usually, when he connects for five hits in seven trips, he annexes at least one or two triples, but he was held to singles and doubles exclu- sively on this occasion. The Reds and Indians are billed for the second engagement next Wed- nesday and the "dope" among the Reds is that Bailey must undergo the steamroller process once more. The Cubs and Dodgers occupy the curtain-raiser next week. The present standing: W. "LL...
