LORENZO JOHNSON, who has been visiting her son, J] Mr. Stewart Johnson, in Washington, has returned to Winnetka for the holidays. Mrs. Johnson will not open her home before she goes to California, and therefore will have her usual "at home" for all her friends on Christmas day at the home of her son and daughter, Major and Mrs. Raymond Hardenbergh, on Private road, Hubbard Woods. Mr. and Mrs. John Robert Leonard and Miss Leonard will be "at home" on New Year's Day, from 4 until 7 o'clock, at "Wildacre." The engagement of Miss Mary Ann Cooper, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clinton E. Cooper, of 5240 Lakewood avenue, Chicago, to Mr. Robyn E. MacFadden, son of Mrs. John M. Henderson, of Wilmette, was announced at a musical and tea given last Saturday afternoon. Miss Cooper is a student at the Northwestern University School of Music and a member of the Chi Omega sorority. Mr. MacFadden is attending the University of Wisconsin where he is a member of the Delta Upsilon fraternity. Vv An evening guest meeting of the MacDowell Musical club of Win- netka was held in the beautiful new 'home of Mr. and Mrs. Roland Whit- man, Thursday, Decmber 9, at 8:15. Each member was privileged to in- vite three guests and judging from the number in attendance, everyone must have taken advantage of this opportunity to give themselves the pleasure of a very delightful evening, for there were about one hundred people present. Mr. Day Williams, cellist, was the assisting artist, ac- companied by his daughter, Miss Williams. The following is the pro- gram: Stern Novmber........ Many of us do not realize the extensive work the Wirtnetka Relief and Aid so- ciety is doing right in our own village. nor have we any idea of the great need for clothing and shoes. This week we have an urgent appeal from Mrs. Lawrence Stein and from Miss Kate Dwyer, who are kept busy these days looking after some very deserv- ing families, stating: "Please," with the word please underscored, "send all used clothing and shoes, also toys | gh and other articles to Miss Kate Dwyer, 858 Elm street, or phone Mrs. Lawrence Stein, Winnetka 170, who will call for packages." The real Christmas spirit is only acquired through the joy of making someone else happy, and surely there isn't a family in Winnetka who cannot do their bit in this case without any ad- ded expense whatever. The East Willow Street Circle met with Mrs. Max Immerwahr on Tues- day afternoon, and was highly enter- tained by a talk given by Mrs. James Patterson. During the past five years Mr. and Mrs. Patterson have spent one-half of each year in Japan, in raising and packing for export the teas of that country. Mrs. Patter- son's story dealt with the impressions of a business woman. Many beauti- ful samples of Japanese work were exhibited and Miss Mary Forrest wore one of the costumes. The musical program consisted of vocal selections by Mrs. Joseph Bren, accompanied on the piano by Mrs. Arthur Dean, one of the selec- tions being "Starlight," written by Mr. Bren. The Circle is invited to meet with Mrs Wallace Beals, as- sisted by Mrs. Davies, in January: ---- On last Monday afternoon the two parliamentary law classes, which have been conducted at the Win- netka Woman's club under the lead- ership of Mrs. M.
