Mrs. Winthrop Girling has generously consented to combine this class in citizenship with her lecture course on "American His- tory and Civics." The lecture will be opened with a brief survey of current events. The class will be held on the second and fourth Tuesdays at 2 o'clock, beginning January 11. Tickets for the course may be se- cured from Mrs. C. F. Pearce. The class is open to the public, not merely to club members. o i 4 "Some 'Experiences of a Rural School Teacher," by Mrs. Maurice H. Lieber promises to make a most interesting program for the next meeting of the Winnetka Woman's club on Thurs- day, December 30. Hostesses on this occasion will be Mrs. William J. Moir, Mrs. Edward A. Royce, Mrs. Eugene A. Rummler, and Mrs. Herbert L. Woolhiser. o - The Wild Flower Preservation so- ciety of America, the Chicago chap- ter, is holding its third annual ex- hibition of nature studies in the east galleries of the Art Institute, Chica- go, from December 18 to January 18. The purpose of this exhibition is to interest people and especially chil- dren in the protection of our native wild life, not only wild flowers but trees and shrubs, birds, butterflies and bees, toads and harmless snakes, beetles and spiders, mushrooms and snails--such an infinite variety of helpless creatures that are working for our good and for the beauty of the world. After January 1 talks on the varied collections will be held in the galleries three times a week at 4 o'clock. There will be moving pictures of plan life and of birds, also the bird song reproduced on the victrola from the birds themselves and the fascinating "chalk tlak" by the dean of the Cleveland art school. Roycemore school closed on Friday for a fortnight's vacation. The clos- ing week was brightened by the pre- paration of Christmas gifts for 250 children of the Chicago Commons. The gifts were collected about three beautiful Christmas trees which stood in the halls of the school until Thursday when four automobiles carried them to the happy recipients at the Commons. A collection was made for the starving chidren of cen-! tral Europe and gifts were sent to' the three French orphans who are; wards of the school.
