Maxwell Secretary, Grosse Point Health Center Thanks to local co-operation with the Chicago Tuberculosis Institute New Trier has a Health Center of which it may be proud. Tt is located on Ridge avenue opposite Hoffman's store. Improvements have recently been made in the interior that make the place attractive and adequate. It is no longer a war time make-shift weighing and measuring station. The local board feels that it needs no apologies, and the people of New Trier are invited to take advantage of 'the privileges the Health Center offers. Monthly Health Clinic Once each month Dr. Wilson R. Abbott holds a Health Clinic there, the time posted at the Health Center one week in advance. Dr. Abbott is an eminent chest specialist employed by the Chicago Tuberculosis Institute and he is the medical examiner at Naperville Sanitorium. The child welfare work under the direction of Dr. M. C. Hecht is another important activity of the Center.. A nutrition clinic is held each Wednesday from 2 to 4:30 o'clock. Here is an op- portunity for children under school age to be weighed and measured and for mothers to receive advice from doctor and nurse in cases of malnutri- tion. Miss Queen, the nurse, who is now an essential part of the com- munity, has her office hour every day from 12 to 1 o'clock. She is prepared to answer any call where a nurse can be of assistance. Besides much of her time is spent in the schools. It is she who weighs and measures the children in St. Joseph's school, the Gross Point Public school and in the District school on Lake avenue (west). It is she who helps in the understanding of quarantine laws. It 4s she who advises, helps, comforts. Heroic Service At the time of the recent diphtheria epidemic Miss Queen was so untiring and intelligent in her handling of the situation that the Township Board ap- pointed her assistant health officer to Dr. Moore. Much might be said about their work together at that time, but it is convincing enough to know that schools. By work of this kind and neglect to no detail the epidemic was soon under control and is now a thing of the past. The writer feels that Wilmette owes a large debt for its safety in this crisis and at all times to such vigilance. Miss Queen has served the com- munity for sixteen months and it is a matter of great satisfaction to know that she is here, and that so simple a thing as the purchase of Christmas seals can support such work. The Chicago Tuberculosis Institute pays half the nurses' salary and the other half is raised by local co-operation. The Health Center itself has so f been maintained by voluntary con- tributions. We invite you to visit the Center, to take advantage of it's privileges and to come in closer con- tact with its work.
