The event is to be called, for the time being, the Silver Tassel tournament. Each club member may enter himself and one guest in the play. The entry this year is limited to one hundred starters. Medal play with handicaps will be used for sev- enty-two holes, thirty-six holes on each day. The Tam 'O Shanter at Westmoreland and the Two Day event at Glen View are planned similar to this and are very popular, attracting much attention in golf circles. The Silver Tassel is expected to become just as well known. Saturday the second round of the President's Trophy will be played. Two players, F. W. Hopkins and F. B. Buckman, tied for first place for the E. B. Shapker trophy last week and have not as yet played off the tie. There will be a ball sweepstakes Sai- urday with a one ball entry fee. An- other trophy at the North Shore which is continually being played for is the. Frank Hopkins Trophy. This cup is to be awarded to the lowest gross score handed in by any four- some over eighteen holes between June 25 and October 15. The cup re- mains the property of the club with the names of all winners to be en- graved on it. Indian Hill will stage another med- al play handicap this week. That of last week was won by L. B. Sherman with a net card of 67. F. E. Miller counted 69 strokes in the same event for second place; third place went to T. W. Ritchie with 71 swings at the ball (plus the handicap). A novel event was planned for wo- men this week on Wednesday, in which the players were to play twice over the same nine holes and then se- lect the lower score of the two for each hole to arrive at the total. A four ball eighteen hole mixed four- some was played on Thursday. The semi-finals of the club cham- pionship will be held Saturday at Bob-'O-Link. This will consist of eighteen hole match play. An eigh- een hole, medal play, handicap with prizes for first and second low gross and low net scores will also be played on Saturday along with a champion Alley contest. In last week's events W. E. Faxon won the 18 hole match play against par with three quarter Patterson was second, 5 down, and A. handicap, finishing 4 down. A. A. R. Peterson, third, 6 down. Winners and B--W. E. Faxon, 72; J. Bob-O'-Link announces that on September 1 there will be at the club a match between the popular Brit- #h players, George Duncan and Abe Mitchell, versus Chick Evans, nation- al amateur champon, and Jock Hutch- inson, Metropolitan Open Champion. Four of the best known players of all time make up this list and the gallery is certain to be unusually large and enthusiastic. | The former pair are touring the United States in exhibition matches and are mak- ing an enviable record. No better competition could be arranged for them than the men who are carded for this match. Westmoreland again offers a wide variety of events for the week. Start- ing next Monday at Westmoreland is the Woman's Western champion- ship, which will last through the week, This is an annual event of much prominence. The semi-finals of the Angus Cup, the first round of the Club Championship, the first round of the class Championship, the St. Andrew's trophy, and the weekly fellowship cup are all included in the program for Saturday. In last week's play, with 84--11--73, Arthur Shiv- erick won the Fellowship cup. G. E. Hecker, 95--10--85, S. O. Dunn, 92-- 90--14--76, N. C. Naylor, 84--8--76, in the blind bogey. C. E. The junior division of the Woman's Western Golf association holds its tournament at Skokie on August 29 and 30. The second 'round of the be completed on Saturday--I18 holes. Sixteen will qualify over 18 holes with no handicaps awarded. The Semi-final round of the August Class tournament also will be held on Saturday.
