The accompanying letters, directed to Mrs. Douglas Smith, chairman of the Winnetka committee for Near East Relief show in what high esteem are held Winnetka's relief projects. The letters read: The following letters which are self- explanatory, show how Winnetka's contribution to the Near East Relief was received: September 17, 1921 Mrs. Douglas Smith, Hubbard Woods, Illinois. Dear Mrs. Smith :-- Your welcome letter of the 16th with a check for $100--making a total of $1,000, the full receipts of Winnet- ka's Saturday Morning Markets--has just been received. Official receipt No. 70443 is enclosed. We thank you for this perfectly unique service which you have rend- all who have in any way co-operated. The need of the dependent people in the Near East is still appalling. Of course, we are all disposed to "carry on" until the children who are under our care have bridged the years to adult life, but it is well nigh heart breaking to learn of the children knocking at the gates of our orphan compounds by the hundreds pleading for admission, when present funds and supplies make it impossible to ad- mit additional children whose rations consist of a little bread and cocoa for breakfast. a little soup for dinner and bread and cocoa again for supper. However, we believe that the com- ing twelve months will see the situa- tion greatly improved and just such acts as yours help us to look more confidently into the future. Thanking you again, we are Very truly yours, Wyllis W. Baird, Chairman. F. J. Michel, Executive Secretary. La il LET US SHOW YOU Angert Wire and Iron Works Phone Englewood 7498 6024-32 Grove Avenue CHICAGO Subscribe To Your Local Paper Chicago, Sept. 20, 1921. Mrs. Douglas Smith, Hubbard Woods, Illinois. Dear Mrs. Smith :-- The splendid work which has been done in Winnetka for the Near East Relief has netted such a handsome contribution, one thousand dollars, that as Treasurer I want to thank inconvenience to many, but the cause is so deserving that I am sure these sacrifices were made willingly. Of course you know that what has been done in such a gener- ous manner in Winnetka and else- where throughout the country is re- lieving indescribable suffering and that the money raised could not be put to a better use. Yours very truly, George M. Reynolds, Treasurer, Near East Relief. "FOR SALE" Ads Bring The Earliest Results Sundays-- for a principle. = = Fo] =m We Ave Entitled To Our: » HINK, MR.
