The meeting afforded the public a very excellent opportunity to become acquainted with political candidates, an occasion which every loyal citizen was privileged to employ to great ad- vantage for the best interests of the community, BRIDGE BUILDING, RADIO AT SCOUTS PUBLIC NIGHT The Public Evening to be given by the Boy Scouts of Troop No. 1, March 23, is intended, primarily, to give par- ents and friends a chance to understand a little more of the work done by the Scouts. It isc also planned to have a large bridge built across an imaginary canyon. It is expected to have a demonstra- tionin wireless work, showing how it is possible to have musical enter- tainment given at a distance. The admisison is nominal, the de- sire being to have as many people interested in the Scout movement as possible. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Strodeur of 846 Oak street announce the birth of a daughter, Los, on Wednesday, Mar. 1. GEORGE ARLISS FILM AT COMMUNITY HOUSE A treat is in store for patrons of Winnetka Community House, Friday, March 24, when the new George Arliss photoplay, "The Ruling Passion," will be shown. This star and this picture is doubly welcome to every lover of the photo- play for the reason that Mr. Arliss has won the admiration of every screen critic for his artistry, and in the United Artists release, "The Rul- ing Passion," he follows a course hitherto uncharted for him. George Arliss is recognized for his characterizations in which sinister mo- tives and a satirical, cynical, crafty, cruel impersonation come first. In his new picture, Mr. Arliss has the role of a lovable, elderly millionaire and philanthropist, who plunges into the hobby of work while under the doctor's - orders to "rest." That he works out the details of a charming love story in which his daughter is involved, is a work of great import- ance as the story unfolds. The story of "The Ruling Passion" was taken from Earl Derr Biggers' story, "Idle Hands," in "The Saturday Evening Post," and was arranged for the screen by Forrest Halsey. The Foxdale Avenue Circle put in a excellent day's work on Tuesday last. Twenty-four infants' night-gowns were made, from cutting to the last draw string. For a practically new (Circle this is splendid. ee es Mr. and Mrs. Harry L. Street of 592 Sheridan road, returned today after a seven week's sojourn in Southern Cali- fornia.
