AEC RS TN, TRIE EN ERIE OR HU if WINNETKA WEEKLY TALK, SATURDAY, APRIL 15, 1922 THEATRE GUILD IN THIRD PRODUCTION 'Mixed Marriage' Among Greatest English Language Plays Here April 27, 28 Exceptional Cast Rehears- ing for Performances The North Shore Theatre Guild will present at the Winnetka Woman's Club, on Thursday and Friday even- ings, April 27 and 28, St. John G. Er- vine's play "Mixed Marriage." "Mixed Marriage" is considered by many as one of the great plays in the English language. It was first pro- duced a good many years ago by the Irish Players at their theater in Dub- lin. They have since then acted it all over the world, and at the present time are playing it in London. Last year it was played by a group of ac- tors who had previously played in the New York Theater Guild's production of the same author's "John Ferguson." Wherever the play has been given it has created a great deal of favorable comment. The Irish Question. The play is an intimate study of a small Irish family and its problems, most of which are presented by a nar- row-minded bigoted and stubborn father, who sees in the proposed mar- riage of his son to a Catholic girl suf- ficient cause to almost disrupt his family and bring upon the city a re- ligious riot. The end of the play finds the father unrepentant, uncom- promising in his attitude and entire- ly unconvinced that he was in any way wrong. The play is peculiarly ap- propriate just now, in view of the present disturbances in Ireland. The guild considers itself especially fortunate in being able to present to its subscribers this play. The direc- tors have been in correspondence with Mr. Ervine for sometime, the result of which is that Mr. Ervine has graciously allowed the guild the use of his play for one-half the royalty usually charged. The same high standard of produc- tion which has characterized the guilds' other presentations will be maintained in this instance. A spe- cial set has been designed by Fred W. Bond, who has spent much time and labor to faithfully reproduce the in- terior of this Irish home. The model from which the scenery is to be built will be on exhibition in the recep- tion hall of the Woman' club both evenings of the play. Exceptional Cast. The cast has been chosen with great care. The names of Percy Eckhart, Mrs. Preston Boyden, Mrs. Arthur Whitely, Mr. Ogden Cook, Mr. Ever- ett Fox and Mr. Joseph Gibson insure intelligent and accurate interpreta- tion of the parts entrusted to them. The play is being produced under the direction of Mr. G. S. Bailey. Tickets will be on sale to the public at the Winnetka Pharmacy, 750 Elm street, after April 20, and at the door of the club the evenings of the per- formances. Ticket Sale Plan.
