"Not so many students but of bet ter quality," are the words used by President Walter Dill Scott of North- western university in announcing the final figures on attendance. "Our classrooms are crowded to the 1fmit and hereafter I shall be more deeply interested in quality and not in quan: tity. When we get the various new buildings Northwestern requires, we can open our doors to the hundreds of students who will be trying to en- ter but who cannot be accommo- dated during the next few years." The final figures of all the schools and departments at Northwestern for 1921-22 were announced as being 8,619. It was thought the total would run over 9,000 but 800 duplications were finally weeded out in recapitula- tion which left the total somewhat be- low that of a year ago. By schools, Northwestern's attendance this year has been as follows: College of Liberal Arts, 1.991; Grad- uate school, 289; Medical school, 456; Law school, 217; College of Engineer- ing, 163; Dental school, 578; Music school, 340; Commerce, graduate stu- dents, 321; Commerce, Evanston, 334; Commerce, Chicago, 2,824; Medill School of Journalism, 38; School of Speech, 204; total, 7,735, less duplica- tions, 44, net total, 7,711. Summer school, attendance, 1921, less duplica- tions, 808. Grand total, 8,519. President Scott gave as an indica- tion of the zeal with which students are turning towards Northwestern, the experience of the Medical school whose freshman class for next fall is nearly all registered at present. "Our Medical school can accommo date at present an average of only 100 in each of the five classes," he said. "That means that the freshman class next fall must net only 100 members. That number isn't quite registered at present but nearly so. We shall have to turn many applicants away from that school alone for want of accommodations of various kinds." Kenilworth Girl Killed in Automobile Smash-up Dispatches Wednesday of this week brought the report of the tragic death of Miss Louise Dale, Kenilworth girl, in an automobile accident near Lulu, Miss. Miss Dale is the daughter of Mrs. W. W. Wkeelock. In company with a party of young companions Miss Dale was motoring to Clarksdale, Miss., to attend a dance. Near Lulu the car swerved and over- turned. She was caught under the tonneau and crushed to death. The others escaped with minor injuries. "Open House" to Parents at New Trier Thursday Thursday evening, May 18, found New Trier High school with doors wide open to welcome from the town- ship those parents who have children now - attending school, those whose children will soon attend, and all who are in any way interested in the school and its work. All the teachers were present to meet with parents; and talk over matters pertaining to the best inter- ests of the students. Cards announcing "open house" had been sent to parents.
