These homes are equipped with auto- matic oil heaters, which are installed | in the heating plant. Oil burning has been for a long time entirely successful in large installa- tions, as office buildings and apart- ments. It required the attention of a skilled man, however, and up to four years ago this fact kept it from being used in homes. Patent is Practical. Four years ago the so-called Double- Detroit patent made oil burning prac- tical for the home, because automatic and trouble free. The modern oil heater has a com- bustion chamber in which the oil is completely consumed--the heat from the combustion reaching the heating surface of the plant exactly as did the heat from the coal. Since the original automatic oil heater was perfected, four years ago, nearly seven thousand of them have been installed in America and six foureign countries Recently, too, three or four other types of oil burn- ing home heaters have been develop ed, and these give a practical service. The automatic oil heater that is chiefly in use today has long been approved by the National Board of Fire Underwriters. It is at least as safe as the coal heating plant. Even Temperature The great advantage of the auto- matic oil heater is that it requires no attendance to maintain an even tem- perature in any winter weather. Its cleanliness, too, appeals to the women --it burns with a sootless, odorless flame, and is regulated by a thermo- stat located conveniently in any room in the house. . The use of automatic oil heaters has grown so fast during the past four years that the manufacturers are now producing nw, to the limit of their capacity. The coal strike will doubt- less bring them an overflow of orders, so that many homes that want this 'modern form of heating may be dis- appointed. Great Lakes Men Fined for Speed, Intoxication Horace Rinehart, a purchasing agent at the Great Lakes Naval train- ing station, and John T. Cunningham, a mechanic, were arrested while speed- ing through Wilmette in a navy car, Monday afternoon, both of them being intoxicated. Rinehart, who lives at 779 Tinnot avenue, Waukegan, was in uniform, when arrested by motor- cycle policeman, George Schaefer, He was driving at the rate of 37 miles an hour along Sheriman road. He was fined $50 and costs for driving while intoxicated. His companion drew $5 and costs. They promised. to appear and pay their fines Thursday.
