[4] od nt WINNETKA WEEKLY TALK, SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 2, 1922 HERRIN FUND DRIVE FOR $200 IS NOW ON (Continued from page 1) expect your co-operation. Our investi- gation has included conferences with Governor Small, Lieutenant Governor Sterling, Attorney General Brundage, a special meeting of our entire Board of Directors, several meetings of the special committee and personal cor- respondence with all of the Presidents of the one hundred and two local Chambers of Commerce which are members of the Illinois Chamber of Commerce. The result of our study leads us to the following conclusions; "(1) That there are only two men who can carry on this prosecution. One is State's Attorney General Edward J. Brundage. "(2) That neither have funds to carry on the investigation and trial. "(3) That there is no source from which the Attorney General can expect to get any state funds. "(4) That Attorney General Brundage, while not charg- ed with any legal responsi- bility in this matter, is willing and anxious to do all in his power to mete out justice to the guilty parties, and will do so pro- viding the necessary funds can be made available. "(5) That the Attorney General will welcome the assist- ance of the Illinois Cham- ber of Commerce, of the lo- cal Chambers of Commerce and of all good citizens. "(6) That the Illinois Chamber of Commerce should, through its members, en- deavor to raise a fund ne- cessary for the ordinary ex- penses of this trial. "In this emergency the State of Ill- inois is on trial. Our citizens visiting elsewhere have been compelled to hang their heads in shame. The world is asking us, "What are you going to do about it?" We believe the only possible answer is that the business men of this state will contribute of their funds to the utmost in order to prove to the world that justice still reigns and human life shall be safe in Illinois." Seek Contributions The New Trier Commercial associ- ation announces that it will be pleased to receive contributions from New Trier citizens at their earliest con- venience. The association is making a sizable contribution in its own name and solicits the co-operation of New Trier business interests and individ- ual citizens. Contributions may be left at the offices in the Glover-Brown building, Wilmette. Checks are to be made out to the New Trier Commer- cial association (Herrin Fund), and addressed to the association in Glov- er-Brown building, Wilmette. WINNETKA WINS, 4-3, IN MASON PARK GAME Winnetka's team defeated Mason Park last Sunday in a close game, featured by two double baggers, hit by Fritz Eckhart, catcher. The final verdict came out 4 to 3 Pete Luec- chesi pitched good ball for the win ners. Next Sunday the team plays Wilmette. Need More Money for Toledo Golf Expenses Lists are still open for contributions to the fund for defraying expenses of Winnetka's representatives in the Pubilc Parks Tournament being held at Toledo, Ohio, this week. Response to the appeal sent out last week has not been commensurate with the gen eral interest and approval expressed This matter, and the payment of dues are again urged upon the attention of the members. The officers state that members sometimes neglect payment of the $1.00 sum, defer it until the association's activities become embar rassed.
