WINNETKA WEEKLY TALK, SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 25, 1922 Winnetka Woman's Club The regular meeting of the Win- netka Woman's club was held Novem- Willoughby Walling ber 16. Mrs. made the following announcements: The Illinois Faderation of Women's clubs hopes to turn in a one hundred, per cent vote of the members as to whether the amendment to the con- stitution offered to the voters is to be adopted. The sccond lecture of the course given by Miss Rebecca Ashley, will take place Monday, November 27. at 4 o'clock, in the Legion room at the club. The lecture will begin promptly at 4 and all are arged to be on time. The North Shore Line announces an opera special every Thursday, leaving Winnetka at 6:56 p..m., ar- riving at Congress and Wabash 7:50 D..m. Mrs. Berry Hiss spoke in the inier- ests of the Work Room and Gift shop | which is under the auspices of the Chi- cago Woman's club. The shop is lo- cated in the Venetian building, 15 E. Washington street, and given employ ment in fine needlework, darning and mending to handicapped women. Positions are found for those in need. | Miss Hiss had some fine work on dis- play. There will be no regular club meet- ing for four weeks. The next meeting will be on December 14 and will be in charge of the Kaucation committee. Dr. Rachelle Yarros will speak on the subject "How to Impart Biological In- formation to Children" and will il- lustrate by means of moving pictures. In the absence of Mrs. ' Badgerow, Mrs. Ernest Ballard charmingly in- troduced the speaker of the afternoon, Miss Harriet Vittum. Miss Vittum is head resident of Northwestern '%umi- versity settlement. She chose as her subject. "Today's Challenge to the American Woman." Miss Vittum told many interesting but pathetic in- cidents in the lives of her neighbors. More particularly of the children and young girls, of young women" who wrap soap and yeast day after day, who go home to overcrowed rooms, unlighted and unsanitary, with pos- sibly the weekly washing stretched out to dry. These girls, like all oth: ers, are desirous of some recreation and must take what is offered to them, which is usually vicious and unwhole- some.
