WINNETKA WEEKLY TALK, SATURDAY, JANUARY 13, 1923 EXPECT 500 WOMEN IT VOTERS SCHOOL New Trier Women to Pre-| side at Voters' League Citi- zenship School Sessions MEET JANUARY 29-31 Discuss Problems of the Ballot Final plans for the program of the Northwestern University School of Citizenship have been practically completed, it was announced by the committee in charge. The school is to be held on the Northwestern campus January 29-31 in co-operation with the Illinois League of Women Voters. Mrs. Florence Bennett Peterson, 687 Lincoln avenue, Winnetka, has not vet announced the subject of the lec- ture which she will deliver on the third day. Mrs. Peterson, Chairman of the Efficiency in Government committee of the Illinois League, is one of three women who will address the assembly, Mrs. William G.- Hibbard, fourth Re- gional Director of the National organ- ization, will preside on the second day, Tuesday. Edwin Stanley Seder, Director of the Organ Department of Northwestern University, will render an organ re- cital Monday afternoon. Must Teach Women Voters "The announcement that the first large citizenship school of the middle west is to be held on the north shore is turning into practical terms the avowed purpose of the League of Women Voters 'to increase the effec- iveness of women's votes and fur- ther better government." Women can- ot claim any exemptions from the duty of honest, intelligent voting. But we must work-and study hard, for we are new to the use of political ma- chinery. This school, which is to be 'ollowed by others, will show that the highest educational authorities believe 'opular education of women voters worthy of their best efforts," said Miss 'ulia C. Lathrop, president of the II- linois League, who is to preside on Monday and will discuss "The Enforce- ment of Child Labor Legislation" on the following day. Expect Large Attendance Although the registration is expect- ed to reach the five hundred mark, plans have been made to accommo- date as many as one thousand women, many of whom would be from down- state. Rooms in north shore homes will be assigned visitors in order of request and applications for tickets to the course may be had upon application to the state headquarters at 153 North Michigan avenue. Miss Mary Ross Potter, Dean of Women at Northwestern, has been selected to conduct the tour of the campus and classrooms which is open to all women attending the school.
