Tribune Architecture The Chicago Tribune architectural contest has attracted world-wide at- tention, ever since the announcement was made last spring that $100,000 would be distributed in prizes for the best designs submitted for a new Tribune structure, which was to be the "most beautiful building in the world." Architects of twenty nationalities have submitted 189 designs, of which fifty-four have come from foreign countries. The countries represented in this international contest are as follows: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Cuba, England, Finland, France, Germany, Holland, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Mexico, Norway, Poland, Scotland, Serbia, Switzer- land, and the TUnited States of America. In answer to many requests, the Tribune has placed these designs representing "International and Twentieth Century treatment of the Skyscraper Idea" on exhibition at the Lake Shore Trust and Savings Bank, at the Northeast corner of North Michigan Boulevard and Ohio street. The exhibition is on the second floor of this building and will be open from December 4 to 11. After that date the designs will be sent east and will 'be shown at New York, Boston, Har- yard University, and perhaps other points. The Ballard Collections The exhibition of Oriental rugs from the collection of Mr. James F. Ballard, of St. Louis, was opened at the Art Institute on Tuesday, Novem- ber 28. . Some of the rugs have been placed on special frames erected for this purpose in the hall at the head of the stairs, and others are suspended from the railings of the stairway. This arrangement affords opportunities for study of individual examples. The exhibition includes the entire group of seventy-four rugs which Mr. Ballard recently presented to the HUBBARD WOODS BAKE SHOP 1077 Gage Street Telephone Win. 1365 We Specialize in Home Made Breads of All Kinds ~ Rolls -- Coffee Cake -- Pastry ~ Cakes - Cookies. The beautiful illustrated catalog for this exhibition is in itself a work of art, and it will be a valuable mono- graph for any one who is interested in the subject of Oriental rugs. A full bibliography is given in the catalog, which includes the best books on the subject in English, French, and German. Many of these books may be found in the Ryerson Library of the Art Institute.
