New Homes Resume Place in Van of Building Permits Eight building permits, represent- ing improvements valued at $6,700, were issued by Erwin Dames, super- intendent of public works, in the last seven days. This Is a marked in- crease over the previous week in which two permits, valued at $17,000, were given out by Winnetka authori- ties. The largest permit of the week was issued to Mrs. M. R. Laser. Mrs. Laser will build a two-story brick veneer residence with garage attached at 731 Lincoln avenue. The cost of the residence is estimated at $18,000. A permit to build a two-story brick and stone dwelling at an estimated cost of §15000 was granted to Edgar Cully, 1190 Oakley street. Other permits running into thou- sands of dollars were granted to the Winnetka Improvement company. This company will construct two two- story brick veneer residences at a cost of $12,000 each. One of the houses will be built at 1241 Ash street and the other at 1242 Cherry street. James Crabb received a permit to build an $8,000 two-story brick veneer resi- dence, with attached garage, at 442 Maple avenue. A $2,500 frame addi- tion will be added to C. F. Harding's residence at 915 Euclid avenue. A permit to lay a $1,000 concrete foundation at 1414 Asbury avenue, was granted to J. J. Desmond. Louis Stubbe, 854 Spruce street, received a permit to build a private garage. Two calls, one at three o'clock in the afternoon and the other at five, kept the department humping most of the afternoon. Neither of the calls was for serious fires, however. The first was a grass fire at Willow and Hib- bard road. 'The other, also a grass fire, ocurred at Avdsley road and Fig street.
