Be | 3 LX WINNETKA WEEKLY TALK, SATURDAY, MARCH 24, 1923 CHURCH QUARTET GROUP OF STARS Congregational Church Se- cures Four of Best Singers in Chicago Area INDIVIDUAL ARTISTS Every Member Has Estab- lished Reputation Much interest has been expressed in the quartet that has recently begun singing at the Winnetka Congre- gational church, and in response to in- quiries Rev. James A. Richards, the pastor, has furnished the following in- formation. "I am very glad to respond to the inquiry of the Winnetka Talk and say a word introducing the new quar- tet singing here. "Miss Olive June Lacey, who is singing soprano, has done much good work in concert and oratorio and has sung a number of times with the Chi- cago Apollo club. Two years ago she was the winner in both the Illinois and the Three States district contests conducted by the Federation of Wom- an's Clubs of Chicago. Well Known Soloist "Mrs. Louise Harrison Slade is one of the best known soloists in Chicago. She sings contralto. She has had many engagements with the Chicago Apollo club and has shared concerts with such national singers as Sundel- ius and Althouse. "Cooper Lawley, tenor, has long had many friends in Winnetka and has frequently been heard here in pri- vate recitals. As noted in the Talk last week, he has recently won first place in a contest at Urbana under the Illinois Musical clubs and there- by becomes the representative of Illi- nois in the interstate contests for younger musicians to be held in the near future. "Gustaf Holmquist, bass, has been soloist with the Apollo club, the North Shore Musical Festival and many of the leading symphony or- chestras. He sings regularly with the Chicago Sunday Evening club which, with the radio broadcasting system, now means singing to an audience widely scattered through the United States and Canada. 'Not the least part of the joy of : the church in these musicians is their deep personal interest in. the spiritual meaning of its worship and eagerness to further its usefulness in every way." Todd School at Woodstock, Illinois, the oldest board- ing school in the West, has long been famous around Chicago for its re- markable standard of athletics for small boys, and Saturday's perform- ance certainly came up to all ad- cance notices. The opening engagement was be- tween the little 8 pound aggrega- tions and was greatly enjoyed by the spectators as it is very seldom that such diminutive athletes are found disporting themselves upon a basket- ball floor. The tilt ended with the Tood boys holding the long end of an 11 to 5 score. The feature game was between the Todd lightweights and North Shore's first team. The Todd team, altho playing in the lightweight division this year actually average only 117 pounds which is bantam weight. They are the same five boys who were last year's State Champions in the How to Enis the Springtime Once a year Nature refreshes the earth. She adorns our land with pretty new frocks--apple bossoms, daisies, a wonderful new green on the hillside, a softer blue in the sky. Then, along the warm South winds, Nature sends her caresses-- to all of us! It's a time for laughter. Throw oft the drab spell of winter, laugh and love, laugh and be well and be happy! You'll make the people around you happy, and that will be the most God- like thing you've ever done. You can't do it naturally, or with perfect sincerity, if your toes are pinched in tight shoes, if your feet are bound stiffly to rigid soles, if your body is tilted out of normal balance by heels too high. But you will enjoy the springtime, you will walk with joy, you will go out-of-doors and take from Nature the tonic that she freely offers, if those wonderful feet of yours are comfortably and sensibly fitted in the Cantilever Shoe. This shoe is shaped to the natural and beautiful lines of the foot, it is light and flexible, it is well made and good looking. As a simple source of happiness, the Cantilever Shoe offers you the most prized thing in life. Try it this springtime, this week-- and see! Sold in Wilmette only by Wilmette Shoe Store Z.
