WINNETKA WEEKLY TALK, SATURDAY, MARCH 31, 1923 WED 50 YEARS, SCORES AT FETE Celebrate Golden Anniversary Nortons Fifty years of happiness were cele- brated last Saturday by Mr. and Mrs. Louis C. Norton, 370 Walnut street, 'Winnetka, on their golden wedding an- miversary. In the afternoon a reception was given for members of the local Woman's Christian Temperance Union, Mr. and Mrs. Louis C. Norton of which Mrs. Norton has been president for many years, and in the evening the East Willow street circle and a few relatives and neighbors were informally received at the Nortons' home. The afternoon program was very similar to the evening program. A short address was made by Dr. Gilbert Stan- sell of the Wilmette parish Methodist church, following which Mrs. Richard J. Burrows provided a delightful musical program. Both afternoon and evening Ernest Clark of Evanston, a nephew of Mr. and Mrs. Norton, read the many telegrams and letters from absent friends and relatives, in an inimitable style interspersing them with humorous remarks apropos of the occasion. A gavel, carved from a chestnut tree planted by Frances Willard on the grounds of Rest Cottage, her home in Evanston, was presented to Mrs. Norton by Elizabeth Gordon representing her sister Anna Gordon, world president of the W. C. T. U. The guests commented on the beautiful floral decorations, many of which were gifts.
