LS WINNETKA WEEKLY TALK, SATURDAY, APRIL 14, 1923 HINMAN IS NEXT EVANSTON HOTEL Carlson Plans 7-Story Apart- ment Structure The northwest corner of Davis street. and Hinman avenue, Evanston. is to be the site of an elegant seven- story 600-room apartment hotel to cost probably $3,500,000. The new ho- tel will be called the Hinman, accord- ing to Victor C. Carlson, architect and builder, who has just completed negotiations for a 100 year lease of the site. The contemplated building will be of Tudor, Old English architecture with the motive carried out in the in- terior as well as the exterior. In an interview with Mr. Carlson it was stated that the preparation of plans will take nearly a year, so that comple- tion of the new hotel is not expected before sometime in 1925. Historic Site The site, which is approximately 200 x 200 feet, possesses singular his- toric interest not only for Evanston- .ians but for thousands of Northwest- ern university graduates as well who will remember it as the first loca- tion of their alma mater. In the early fifties the trustees of Northwestern university obtained the site with a large tract of land in that section and in November 1855 opened the Old College building, as it is now known, and which at present stands on the new campus just north of Fisk hall. Old timers say that the first meetings of all the old church societies of Fv- anston were held in the class rooms of the building on this site. The lease for the new hotel was closed Saturday between Northwest- ern university and Victor C. Carlson for a term of 100 years at an aggregate rental of $2,100,000. The lessee is holding possession for a corporation vet to be formed for the purpose of controlling the entire property, subject to the terms of the lease. Orrington Ready Sept. 1 Mr. Carlson, prominent Evanston builder, who is taking the lease, is the owner of the Library Plaza hotel on Orrington avenue, Evanston, and 1s Comfortable Shoes Are Setting the Style Today, real style calls for a shoe more closely modelled upon the real lines of the foot than was the case two years ago. Pointed toes, are no longer fashionable. Even the style magazines are illustrating and rec- ommending properly-shaped shoes for all except the formal social functions. Many women have found great comfort and happiness in Cantilever Shoes. You will like them, too, be- cause they look so well and because they harmonize so naturally with the shape of your foot. You get real enjoyment out of Cantilever Shoes. There is no crowding of the toes no pressure, no restraint. The shoe is modelled upon the lines of your own foot and the flexible arch of your foot. The great comfort in Cantilever Shoes is simply the per- fect freedom they allow. The freedom of the muscles to sxercise and keep strong safeguards you against weak or fallen arches. The free circulation helps to keep your feet in good condition, and cool in summer, for feet swell from re- stricted circulation. Graceful in appearance, well made, of fine leathers, Cantilever Shoes will give you economical service and a de- gree of foot comfort which you will appreciate best after you are wearing them. North Shore Specialist Pens Book on Child Care Louis W. Sauer, M. A, M. D, well known to north shore residents as the senior attending pediatrician at the Ev- anston hospital, is the author of a note- worthy book on child care, just received from the publishers, under the title of Nursery Guide for Mothers and Nurses. Dr. Sauer's book is a work meriting a high position in the field which it covers. Many of those who have ex- amined it believe it to be a volume which will vie for eminence in the place so long occupied with little contention by Holt. It is pointed out that in spite of epoch- making discoveries and progress in this branch of medics, the infant death rate still continues high. This little book is intended to aid this situation as far as possible by the guidance of those to whom the care of the infant is entrusted It gives in a clear, concise form all es- sential details of care and feeding. Un- like other books, it does not give hazard- ous formulas and prescriptions. It tells how to care for the infant in health and disease. The subject matter is coheren' and systematically arranged, and the ill- ustrations are timely. The north shore may well be proud by this newest ad- dition to the works of men and women who write from this community. PAINT Rasmesen's 57x: Phone 550 Winnetka Center 344 St. OF ALL KINDS.
