In your issue of March 24, under the heading of "The Reading Lamp," Jane Cornell's review on two books on Coueism, contains the following state- ment : "At a time when everyone is talk- ing of the latest psychological devel- opment; of Christian Science, and its relation to M. Coue's doctrine, a simple straight-forward exposi- tion of the whole matter is a wel- camed book to those of us who have neither the time nor the op- portunity to go more deeply into the subject." There is so great a difference between auto-suggestion as taught by M. Coue and Christian Science that I would ask the courtesy of your printing this ex- planation. M. Coue does not profess for his teaching any religious significance what- soever, whereas Christian Science teaches that Christian healing comes not through auto-suggestion, through the use of form- ulas or through any hypnotic agencies of the human mind dominating itself, but through an acceptance and under- standing of the omnipresence and om- nipotence of the spiritual good inherent in the divine Mind. On page 11, of the Preface to Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mrs. Eddy says: 3 "The physical healing of Chris- tian Science results now, as in Jesus' time, from the operation of divine Principle, before which sin and dis- ease lose their reality in human consciousness and disappear as nat- urally and as necessarily as darkness gives place to light and sin to re- formation. Now, as then, these mighty works are not supernatural, but supremely natural. They are the sign of Immanuel, or 'God with us, --a divine influence ever present in human consciousness and repeat- ing itself, coming now as promised aforetime, To preach deliverance to the captives (of sense) And recovering of sight to the blind, To set at liberty them that are bruised." Sincerely yours, LONGLEY TAYLOR, Christian Science Committee on Publication for the State of Illinois. "cp that the essential thing r~bout the funeral director is his attitude to- ward his profession. The entire quality of his service may be easily' deducted from this one thing. Most of the modern men of the profession look upon their work as almost sacred; they have learned that their services must be of the highest order, if they are to receive recognition from their fellows. The funeral director of today may be relied upon implicitly in every way. PHONE EVANSTON GOO : Coo sD: a po FUNERAL SERVICE He0P aen We carry a complete line of Garden Implements. E. B. TAYLOR & CO.
