WINNETKA WEEKLY TALK, SATURDAY, MAY 5, 1923 DRAMA 'TRUTH' WINS APPROVAL Critic Praises Cast Appear- ing at Woman's Club By S.:8./O. A delightful evening's entertainment was afforded those who attended the production of Clyde Fitch's comedy "The Truth" given at the Winnetka Woman's club on the evening of April 27. Generally speaking, the acting as well as the staging, was of a high order. Mrs. Preston Boyden, as Becky Warder, rendered a brilliant interpretation of the part, holding the interest of the audience throughout the play though occasionally neglecting a touch of subtlety which might well have been used to good effect. Mr. Coffin showed very good stage presence and a well-rounded con- ception of the character in hand. In many instances, the voices of the actors could have been improved. Mrs. Al- bert Potter, though playing a small role, deserves more importance in the future. Her stage presence and voice were highly commendable. A creditable piece of work was likewise rendered by Mrs. E. Ashley Gerhard and Mrs. Charles Eastman, the latter's conception of Rol- and forming an excellent counterfoil for the unblushing Mrs. Crespigny, so well handled by Mrs. Gerhard. A lack of familiarity by certain act- ors, with practical points of the stage set in the last act, might have been avoided by more rehearsing. Credit should also be given Mr. Von Ammon and Miss Grover for the masterly design and simplicity of the setting in the first act and likewise, though in a different fashion, Mrs. Frederick Dickson, the coach and director of the production, deserves much commendation for her share of the final result. Mr. and Mrs George Routh of Hub- bard Woods have moved into an apartment at 923 Michigan avenue, Evanston. START WORK ON NEW SUNSET RIDGE LINKS Actual work on the new Sunset Ridge Country club golf course located west of Winnetka at the Kotz and Waukegan roads, is to begin Monday, May 7, ac- cording to imformation received this week from officials of the club. Prominent golf archi- tects consulted concerning the proposed course were strong in their praise, de- claring it to be one of the finest golfing sites in the Middle West. A contract has been made by the club with William Diddle, golf architect of Indianapolis, Ind, who has completed the preliminary surveys and is prepared to proceed with actual work on the course next Monday. The course, Mr. Diddle has announced, should be playable by Decoration Day, 1924.
