WINNETKA WEEKLY TALK, SATURDAY, MAY 12,1923 RAPID SALE OF BAKULE TICKETS Anticipate Enthusiastic Re- ception for Czecho-Slo- vakian Songsters CONCERT HERE MAY 14 Crippled Children Demon- strate Handiwork Out of gratitude to the American Junior Red Cross The Bakule School Unit of the Czecho-Slovak Red Cross will appear in the Jane Kuppenheimer Memorial hall, Skokie school, Monday afternoon, May 14, at 2 o'clock, to dem- onstrate the work which is being done. for the crippled children of the Bakule school, to sing to their friends in Amer- ica the beloved songs of their home land and to demonstrate some of the folk dances of Czecho-Slovakia. Predict Great Reception That the chorus will be well received in Winnetka was indicated last Wednes- day when it was announced that all of the children's tickets had been sold, and that only a very few adult tickets re- mained on sale. It is expected that the spacious Jane Kuppenheimer hall will be taxed to its capacity. The Bakule Chorus comes from Prague Czecho-slovakia. It is com- posed mostly of crippled children who are being cared for by the Bakule school and are being taugh how to overcome the handicaps that are theirs. Examples of the beautiful handiwork that the crippled children can do will be on exhibition at the Skokie school. Some of the work, it is said, is remarkably delicate. Sing Native Melodies In addition to exhibiting their me- chanical and artistic ability the European children will sing folk songs and native melodies, and will demonstrate some of the Czech folk dances. Classical music will also have a place on the program. The Bakule Unit's American tour is being conducted by the American Red Cross. The appearance in Winnetka is made possible by virtue of the personal friendship of Carleton W. Washburne, superintendent of schools, with Mr. Bakule, the principal of the school. Other performances are given only in the larger cities. U. of I. Stadium Work Now Proceeding Rapidly They're speeding up on the con- struction of the great® University of Illinois Memorial Stadium, whose im- posing red skeleton of steel is steadily pushing itself skyward. With six months in which to complete the seats for the opening game--the Chi- cago-Illinois football battle on No- vember 3 the contractors have squared away for the drive. Every bit of structural steel is at hand and it is expected to be in place by, the end of the month. Tire huge girders which will support the bal- cony are going into place at an av- erage of almost one a day. The struc- ture will contain 2,700 tons of steel. DR. R. L. WOOSTER Osteopathic Physician 797 Elm St. Winnetka Hours by appointment Phone Winnetka 1767 "13" HOLDS NO TERROR FOR DOUGLAS MACLEAN That the number thirteen holds mo terrors for Douglas Macl.ean has been proved in his two latest Thomas H. Ince pictures, "The Hottentot," and "Bell Boy 13," an exhilarating comedy farce to be shown next Friday at the Community House. In "The Hottentot" Maclean had to ride a steeplechase with thirteen horses, in which he was the thirteenth rider and the day was Friday, the thirteenth. In his latest picture he again proves himself immune {rom superstition by donning brass buttons and answering to the hoodo number. Both of his recent pictures have won such big popularity that Maclean has become superstitious about the luck- bringing powers of "13," and says he in- tends to begin his next production on the thirteenth day of the month and have thirteen scattered all the way through the picture. "FINGER PRINTS" "Finger Prints" a play on Race Re- lations, will be presented at Medinah Temple, Monday and Tuesday eve- nings, May 14 and 15. Are you plan- ning to see this intent and appealing dramatization: of Chicago's rare prob- lems? Are you sure you have an in- telligent viewpoint of it? This play does not pretend to force an opinion but tries rather to give a picture of the new negro in his home or com- munity.
