WINNETKA WEEKLY TALK, SATURDAY, MAY 26, 1923 FAIRIES' PLAY GRIPS KIDDIES National Kindergarten Col- lege Pageant Lures the Plane-Chasing Urchin GEE, IT WAS GRAND Jester and Fairy Queen Win Audience The old fascination of fairies and the modern interest in aeroplanes clashed in front of the Skokie school last Satur- day afternoon when a rugged urchin of ten or eleven, on the way to see an aeroplane land, stopped to "take a peek" at the play, "On Fairies' Wing," which students of the National Kindergarten and Elementary college were presenting for the benefit of the building fund for their new college. The fapries won! "Gee, but that was grand. You can see aeroplanes lots of times, but fairies!" Briar Rose, the fairies and the court became very real indeed to the children | who packed the auditorium. In breath- less awe they watched the dainty winged creatures, they laughed with glee at the 'antics of the jester, drew back in dismay at the approach of the evil fairy and quite lost their hearts to the golden haired little princess. So real was she in the play that when she approached the spinning wheel, one little fellow clutched his mother's arm and cried, "Oh, mother, don't let her touch it! Don't let her!" And as the princess, the lords and ladies, fell one by one asleep, a little girl murmured, drowsily, "Muvver, my foots is going to sleep, too." Then there was the thrill of anticipation when the prince approached, and joy when, through his love of Briar Rose, he broke the old enchantment. All through the play there ran an undertone of question and comment on . the customs and costumes of a by-gone age. "But, mother, why did they have a jester to make them laugh? Couldn't they laugh anyway? "Why do they come out in their bare feet? Haven't they any stockings?" "Do those two little boys carry that rug (the king's train) behind the king for him to sit on?" And when, to the delight of the chil- dren, the king and queen, prince and princess, and all their train came down from the stage and through the audience, a little girl with pink cheeks and shin- ing eyes turned to her daddy and said, "Oh! Oh! now they're going over to the church to be married!' Of Interest Only | to Our Advertisers The Full Page Roll of Honor con- tinues to grow. One of our customers tried on a pair of Cantilever Shoes at our sug- gestion. She took a few steps. Then, as if a weight had been lifted from her mind, she smiled and said: "These shoes are really comfort- able!" She had found one of the secrets of happiness. For there is no great enjoyment anywhere--out of doors or indoors--if one's feet are uncom- fortable. The great majority of shoes are made on lasts which scarcely resem- ble the shape of the human foot. So the foot is packed into a shoe which is more rigid than the foot, and the foot does its best to assume the shape of the shoe. No wonder there is so much foot trouble in the world. The ideal upon which the Canti- lever Shoe has been built is that the shape and action of the foot must be given first consideration. Style is harmonious combination which that an added feature. The result is a harmonious combination which pleases both the eye and the foot. You will enjoy 'Cantilever Shoes for their looks, for their natural and comfortable lines, their sensi- ble heels. The flexible arch permits a freedom to the muscles which re- sults in easier walking, less tiresome standing, and a healthful condition of the feet. Some people go about with "a weight on the mind;" others with a weight on their feet--but this is easily removed by changing to Can- tilever Shoes. 1150 Central Ave., Wilmette Wilmette Shoe Store Z.
