WINNETKA, WEEKLY TALK, SATURDAY, JUNE 2, 1923 17 PLAYERS DRAMA HERE NEXT WEEK "Jane Clegg" to Be Given by North Shore Players at New Trier High School LEGION BENEFICIARY Jessie Royce Landis in the Title Role St. John Irvine's realistic play, "Jane Clegg," is being prepared by the North Shore Players for performances on Monday evening, June 4, at the Jane Kuppenheimer Memorial hall, Winnetka, and again on Wednesday evening June 6, at the New Trier high school auditorium. The play is given under the auspices and Jessie Royce Landis ior the benefit of the Winnetka Post of the American Legion. The part of "Jane Clegg" is to be por- trayed by Jessie Royce Landis, who has been in charge of all the direction of the North Shore Players' productions for the past two seasons, and to whom, these youthful dramatists declare, is due all Coal Sand Gravel Cement Black Dirt Crushed Stone WILMETTE BUILDING MATERIAL COMPANY PHONE WILMETTE 2288 the credit for the success of their num- erous ventures. Mrs. Landis has appeared on the pro- fessional stage in a number of important productions, and since her marriage has been doing only semi-professional work as well as giving instruction in dramatic art. Other players to appear in "Jane Clegg" are Benn F. Carswell, W. Har- lan Ware, Hawley Mertz, Miss Fanelma Schulmeyer, Ruth Buschnell and Gordon Delay. Avenue of Elms Honors University's Hero Dead Students of Northwestern University who gave up their lives on European battlefields were perpetually remember- ed on the Evanston campus. One hun- dred and eighty boys of Northwestern enlisted in 1917. An avenue of elms was dedicated on Memorial Day in the pres- ence of 7,000 Northwestern undergrad- uates and various patriotic organiza- tions in honor of the fallen seventy-four. Their names are inscribed on a bronze tablet secured to a rough boulder at the south-end of the avenue, which lies between Patten gymnasium and Lake Michigan. The entire plan was made possible by subscriptions from the facul- ty and student bodies following the sug- gestion of Dean James A. James of the Graduate School.
