Magistrate Orders Circus Men Held to Grand Jury Andrew Theis and Harold Matthies, who were arrested two weeks ago on the charge of operating a confidence game and obtaining money under false pretenses in connection with the Wilmette American Legion circus last May, were held over to the crimi- nal court Monday when their case was tried before Magistrate Daniel M. Mickey. Their bonds were set at $1,000 each. It is charged that Theis and Matthies, together with Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Burgdorf who have not been located, conducted a contest in such a manner that Theis came into pos- session of an automobile roghtfully the property of another. THE PUBLIC FORUM Editor, Weekly Talk: Since Superintendent Washburne's announcement of my resignation from the Winnetka public schools appeared in the last issue of the Talk a considerable number of parents have expressed sur- prise that I should be leaving Winnetka. Permit me to say that it is my inten- tion to make by home in Winnetka in- definitely, and I trust my usefulness to the children of our village will not en- tirely end with the serving of my offi- cial relations with the schools. I know of no community in which I would rath- er live than Winnetka. The happiest teaching years of my life have been spent with the children here, and it is only with the keenest regret that I con- template giving up my work with them. I am hoping in the fall to establish in Winnetka a model children's work- shop where I can demonstrate clearly that workshop activities are invaluable in the education of boys and girls from kindergarten age up.
