| WINNETKA WEEKLY TALK, SATURDAY; JUNE 23, 1923 vi ~~ New Home of Evanston Branch Cadillac Co. - With the removal of the First Metho- dist church edifice from the corner of Ridge avenue and Lyon street, Evanston, passes one of the oldest landmarks of the north shore city. For upwards of fifty years the church has occupied this site, a familiar object to the thousands who daily pass to and fro on the Ridge avenue thoroughfare. The demands of business, demands which cannot be denied, are the cause of the removal. The commercial value of this corner is to great to permit any reservation of it for non-business uses and the new Evanston home of Cadillac motor cars will be opened on the property about the middle of June. This new sales and service station, established and operated by the Cadillac Motor Car Company--Chicago branch-- Ee is 'made necessary by the growth of business, a' growth 'so rapid that the. present. building has been found inade- quate in the first year of its use. The convenience of authorized service by competent Cadillac mechanics has proved exceedingly popular with North Shore Cadillac owners. : wi The new structure is planned to pro- vide for future increase in business. Two stories in height, it will have a frontage of 100 feet, depth of 150 feet, a total floor space of 30,000 square feet, and a service capacity of 50 cars a day. The building will be of most attractive design. Fireproof construction through- out will safeguard the automobiles which are: brought in for servicing and the most modern ventilation system will protect the health of the mechanics through proper elimination of the rex- haust. gases. ' A handsome showroom for new auto- mobiles, a used car display room, offices, lounge, and retiring room, parts stock room, and storage space for finished cars will occupy the ground floor. The service department, reached by an incline i from the street level, will occupy the en- tire second floor. Complete equipment of the special tools which have been developed at the Chicago branch for the economical ser- vicing of Cadillac automobiles will be installed in the service shops. Nothing that contributes to the rendering of prop- er service will be omitted and Cadillac owners in Highland Park and the neighboring North Shore. communities can rest assured that the new Evanston branch will meet every demand upon it for satisfactory work. SUMMER SCHOOL ATN. U. JUNE 25 Offer Courses Attractive Season Many This Seven days after Commencement. June 18, Northwestern university will be invaded by students from all parts of the countiy and from many for eign countries, and the halls and classrooms will be taken over by pro- fessors, who, for nearly eight weeks, will give instruction in law, music, commerce, and the liberal arts, not to mention other subjects. The summer session at Northwestern university promises to be more largely attended this year than at any other time, ac- cording to Director Clyde L. Grose. More than 1,600 students have regis- tered. These will be taught by a faculty numbering 137 members, 46 of whom are drawn from other institu- tions. The session lasts from June 25 to August 8. Many students, said Professor Grose, welcome work in 'the summer session because of the opportunity to pursue desired courses with resultant college credit and at the same time live in a different atmosphere from that of the regular term. The courses are designed primarily for those de- siring to complete admission require- ments for college or professional school. School superintendents, teach- ers, practicing lawyers, journalists and business men, pastors and church workers--all are including in the sum- mer session enrollment at Northwest- ern university. On the teaching staff of Northwest- ern university law school this summe- will be Alfred Budge, chief justice of the supreme court of Idaho; Law- rence DeGraff justice of the supreme court of Towa; Edward Shiloh Mat- thias justice of the supreme court of Ohio; Charles A. O'Neill, chief justice of the supreme court of Louisiana, and Robert Riddick Prentis, justice of the supreme court of appeals of Virginia. - Ea wi IF A LOT OF FOLKS INTHIS TOWN WOULD PAY THEIR BILLS SOME OF THE REST] OF US COULD PAY JOURS® | THERE'S ONE BILL" | TWVISH THEYD PAY AND THATS ME" F INTEREST only to our ADVERTISERS Full Page Roll of Honor Hubbard Woods Lumber & Coal Co. 9 Winnetka Coal-Lumber Co. ....... 6 Hubbard Woods Grocery & Market 5 E. Rice, ranked number 11,1 'that he will enter the Illinois State { Tennis championship to be played July 2 to, July 8, at Skokie Country club. . He is a product of the modern school of sound all around play, his game be- ing a combination of fast, deeply played ground strokes and consistent net play. Rice's forehead drive is, perhaps, his a point winner but as a means of gain- ing the net. His game presents no glar- ing weakness and is not noted for any the result of intelligently applied strokes and tactics, coupled with a persistence and a vitality that has earned him the victory in many hard-fought matches. He has a sound backhand that can be occasion demands. He is extremely hard anticipation of the direction of-approach- ing balls, great 'activity, and the ability to put away lobs. A season or two him still further toward the top of the First Ten. Word has also been received from Phillip _ Bettens ,of . California, who played in the Illinois State last year that greatest asset, as\it is used not only as highly specialized stroke; it is merely' either defensive or aggressive, as the' more of tournament play should advance ' cago band, which will he would enter. He is a member of the University of California tennis team and is on his way East to play in the Inter- collegeate Matches to be played in Phila- delphia next week. He is a very aggressive player and is well liked by everyone. There is a bare possibility that the entire University of California team will also come to the Skokie meet.
