2 WINNETKA WEEKLY TALK, SATURDAY, JUNE 30, 1923 Pass Ordinance to Extend Electric Road Franchise The Winnetka Village board, in special session Monday evening, passed an ordi- nance extending the present Chicago, North Shore and Milwaukee Electric road franchise to July 31, 1923. The franchise, which expired normal- ly on May 31, 1923, had previously been extended to June 31, 1923. Extension of the present franchise was made to permit the village and railroad officials to work out the many details in connection with the new fran- chise which is expected to be ready for approval in the near future. Skokie Yacht Club Boys Demonstrate Their Boats Jamie Odell, Ralph Johansen, Walter Schumacher, Bob Martin, William Cun- nygham, Eames Marble and Dick Mass- man, members of the Skokie Yacht club of Winnetka whose model boats are on display in the Toy section at Marshall Field and company, attended the exhibit Wednesday, July 27, and explained the sea-going qualities of their ships to a large group of youthful enthusiasts. They attended luncheon in the Tea, room at Marshall Field and company. Start Summer Program In Local Church School Beginning Sunday, July 8, at 10 o'clock, there will be a special sum- mer session of the Church school at the Winnetka Congregational church for the children in the Kindergarten department through the fourth grade. This session will be under the super- vision of Mrs. William T. Wersted and will continue for six weeks. Mrs. Wersted will have as her assistants, Mrs. Myron T. Harshaw, Mrs. Joseph E. Winterbotham_, Mrs. Stanley Simp- son, Mrs. Robert Wilson, Mrs. Davies Lazear and Miss Ida Martin. - CLERK-CARRIER EXAM. An examination for clerk-carrier at the Wilmette Post office is announced by the United Civil Service Commis- sion for Tuesday, July 17. The ex- amination will be held at the local office where information may be se- cured. Swimming Instruction to be Given at Local Beach F. W. Priestman, lifeguard at the Win- netka Beach, will be glad to count you as a member of his class of novices at the Lake Front Park beach. Children especially are invited to join the classes.
