WINNETKA WEEKLY TALK, SATURDAY, JULY 7, 1923 COUNTRY CLUB HAS BIG RALLY Installation of Officers Fea- tures Largest Annual Meet- ing in Club History McCLURE GIVES PLANS Ambitious Program Is Ar- ranged for New Club Year Installation of officers recently elected to direct the affairs of the Quilmette Country club during the next twelve month, was the feature of the annual meeting and dinner at the club attended by 250 members last Thurs- day evening. With the attendance the largest in the history of annual meetings of the club, converted the session inte a veritable rally. In addition to the annual report by secretary Elmer A. Rich, Jr., and an address by president Charles W. Triggs, in which he re- viewed the work of the past year and formally introduced W. Frank McClure, the new president, there 'was an interesting and spirited discus- sion of the program for the coming year. Plans were inaugurated for an in- tensive membership campaign with 300 members, the maximum roster of the club, as the goal. President Mc- Clure spoke briefly outlining a num- ber of excellent plans to make the Quilmette Country clhb the most popular organization of its character on the north shore. Augmenting the dinner, installation ceremonies and discussion, was an excellent program given by Miss Rita Smith, a well known entertainer, who delighted the guest with songs and stories of the period of the Cival war, with guitar accompaniment. Officers installed at the meeting were: W. Frank McClure, president. ~ F. E. Harwood, vice president. Elmer A. Rich, Jr., secretary (re- lected). F. J. Scheidenhelm, treasurer, (re- lected). A. W. Crawford, W. D. Lawrence, annual directors. J. H. Krafthefer and H. P. Pruden, | Bungalow Tea Room Is Opened to North Shore The Bungalow Tea Room, formerly the Robinson restaurant in the Metro- politan building on Central avenue, near Wilmette avenue, Wilmette was form- ally opened to the residents of the north shore on the Fourth of July. Jesse R. Gathercoal, Jr., a well known former resident of the village, is pro- prietor of the Tea Room. He is an expert in the better class restaurant business, only recently having been as- sociated with the Commissary depart- ment of the Chicago, North Shore and Milwaukee railway. A splendid cooling system, said to be unrivalled anywhere in the country, has been installed in the Tea Room, so that the absolute comfort of guests is as- sured during the warmest weather. An excellent dance floor is a feature of the restaurant. : Baptist Leaders Attend Illinois Summer Assembly Rev. Francis C. Stifler, pastor of the Wilmette Baptist church, and Edwin Phelps, Wilmette resident and national leader in Baptist young people's work, are to attend the sessions of the Illinois Baptist Summer Assembly held at Shur- tleff college, Alton, Ill, July 7-14. Both Mr. Stifler and Mr. Phelps are members of the teaching staff of the as- sembly, which is held for the purpose of giving the young people of the de- nomination instruction in religious work, particularly as it pertains to church ad- ministration. Mr. Stifler is to give courses on the organization of the local church for mis- sions and the conduct of vesper services. Mr. Phelps will deal with leadership training, B. Y. P.
